Description:

This is an exceptional example of an all original 1906/34 DWM/Mauser "American Eagle" Commercial Luger with the very desirable A.F. Stoeger markings. These 1906/34 American Eagle Lugers were made expressly for export to the United States by or from the newly formed "Mauser" factory. These were contracted with Mauser by the A.F. Stoeger Company in New York, who was one of, if not the largest firearms importer in the 1920s and 1930s. These early pistols in the "v" range still used some of the old DWM parts along with the newly manufactured Mauser parts to produce this model as it used the old short barrel extension combined with the new style frame with no grip safety and the new style mainspring. The chamber is marked with the American Eagle crest and the front toggle has the DWM markings for the Deutsch Waffen und Munitionsfabriken. It is chambered for the 7.63mm Luger cartridge with the rapid taper 4 3/4 inch (1906 pattern) barrel. The right side of the barrel extension is rolled marked with a small, "GERMANY" followed by "A.F. STOEGER, INC./NEW YORK." with the right side of the frame roll marked "GENUINE LUGER -REGISTERED U.S. PATENT OFFICE". Additionally on the top rear section of the barrel it is roll marked in extremely small lettering: "Made In Germany". It is correctly marked "GELADEN" and "SAFE" respectively on the extractor and under the safety lever. The front of the frame is stamped with the serial number "446v", with no number on the barrel with the various small parts, all numbered "46" except the magazine which is unnumbered. The left side frame rail is correctly stamped with a "Crown/N" proofmark. It is fitted with a Swiss pattern magazine, with a nickel plated body and a wooden base with the small circular metal discs on the sides. It has been estimated that approximately 1,000 of these pistols were produced; however, original and unaltered examples such as this pistol are exceptionally scarce. The pistol has a rust blue finish with straw colored small components and checkered walnut grips. This very early example is correctly numbered only on the front of the frame.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% plus of the original blued finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear with thinning and blue loss on the grip straps. The various small parts retain 85% of the original straw colors with more vibrant colors in the protected areas. The walnut grips are also in excellent condition with a nice dark color on both sides with nice distinct, sharp checkering overall with only some minor handling marks. An exceptionally nice all original, high condition 1906/34 Mauser Luger pistol with the rare A.F. Stoeger barrel markings.
