Description:

This is a solid representative example of a very scarce Walther G41(W) rifle that was manufactured during World War II. This example has the very desirable push button bolt release mechanism on the left side of the stock that is found only on the first series of G41 rifles. This mechanism was intended to release the bolt and bolt carrier group after the rifle was loaded. This feature was discontinued in the 7500 serial number range, making these early rifles an even rarer production variation. It has the all machined parts, with a full-length walnut stock with black plastic (durofol resin) handguard, another war expedient feature intended to save on the use of wood. These rifles were some of the first semi-automatic rifles fielded by the German Army during WWII, obviously intending to increase the firepower of the German soldier over the standard K98 rifle. It is estimated that approximately 10,000 of the G41 series of rifles were actually manufactured before production ceased due the their high cost and numerous fully machined parts, before the German Army changed to the more reliable, war expedient version of the G/K-43 series of rifles. They featured a "Bang" type gas trap mechanism on the end of the barrel with the full length piston rod above the barrel. These rifles have the Type One machined receiver and bolt carrier. The left side of the receiver is marked G 41(W) with the serial number "1238ac" stamped on the upper portion of the receiver below the rear sight with a single German Eagle behind that. Both the left and right side of the receiver and the various component parts have the "Eagle/ 359" proof. The handguard is the early, unnumbered version marked "PAG" inside, indicating manufactured by the Prague Essen Werks, along with a mold number of 2270. It is complete with a GI dark brown leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 40% of the original blue finish overall with much of the exposed metal having turned a gray patina. The refinished stock is very good with a nice medium tone colored walnut which has been lightly sanded overall with no visible proof marks or serial number and has had a set of commercial sling swivels added. It has matching visible serial numbers parts except the replacement mismatched numbered gas, nose-cone and the stock. Mechanically fine.
