Description:

Measuring 36 inches overall, with a 30 1/2 inch double fuller blade, decorated on each side with etched patriotic and martial motifs, the Ames address on the right side above an "ADK" inspection stamped on the ricasso, and "1862" on the reverse. The hilt is gilt brass, with floral designs between the guard branches and a wire wrapped sharkskin grip. Included with the sword is a black leather scabbard with gilt brass fittings, bearing the Ames address on the reverse of the throat, and a treated cloth case.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The excellent blade is bright overall, with a small amount of "pin prick" size pitting visible at the tip and exceptional detail in the etching. The hilt is fine, with some light rubbing on the high edges exposing well-aged brass, some seam splitting and wear on the grip, and most of the original strong gilt finish overall. Mild wear and tear is present on the case, with some light handling marks on the scabbard.
