Description:

Both bayonets feature yataghan pattern blades and brass hilts. 1) 30 inches overall with a 25 1/4 inch blade marked "1861" on the left ricasso and "W 982" on the back of the hilt. The internal diameter of the muzzle ring is .88 inches. In features it is very similar to identified examples of the U.S. Navy Model 1862 Merrill Rifle bayonet. 2) U.S. 1841 Mississippi "Snell" bayonet, 27 1/4 inches overall, with a 22 3/8 inch blade and a brass hilt marked "D11" on the front ring. A rotating steel switch is installed in the front ring, and a swiveling rear ring is integrated into the pommel.

Rating Definition:

1) Very good, with a light gray patina and mild spotting on the blade, and some dents, patina and verdigris on the grip. 2) Fine, with a dark brown/gray patina on the steel, a number of nicks on the blade, and an aged color to the hilt.
