Description:

Only about 300 of these pocket revolvers and 500 of the larger Navy Model revolvers were manufactured by Charles R. Alsop of Middletown, Connecticut, in 1862 and 1863 and closely resemble the Savage revolvers of the period. Multiple members of the Alsop family held positions in the Savage Revolving Firearms Company, and Charles Alsop was one of the principal gunsmiths with the firm. The top barrel flat is marked "C. R. ALSOP MIDDLETOWN CONN./PATENTED JULY 17th. AUGUST 7th. 1860 MAY 14th. 1861", and "C.R. ALSOP. PATENTED/NOV. 26TH 1861" is on the side of the cylinder. The front sight is a brass cone, and the rear sight is a groove in the top of the frame. The barrel and grips are numbered to the gun. Given that they were produced during the Civil War, many of the Alsop revolvers were likely privately purchased by Union soldiers.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 30% original case colors on the hammer, 40% original blue finish concentrated on the cylinder and sides of the of the loading lever housing, and gray and brown patina on the balance along with some mild oxidation and pitting. The slightly undersize grips are fine and have light scratches and marks, a small flake on the upper right, and minor handling wear. Mechanically fine.
