Description:

The Remington-Hepburn No. 3 rifles were manufactured beginning in 1883. This Target Model was special ordered and upgraded and has a windage adjustable globe front sight followed by a second dovetailed bead front sight with three different rotating options (brass, silver, and white), the "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y." barrel address (suggesting the rifle was manufactured before the company was reorganized in the later part of the 1880s), adjustable sporting rear sight, "40. 2 1/2" on the bottom of the barrel ahead of the forearm, "SB" and "FREUND SG T 306" on the bottom of the barrel under the forearm (in addition to the matching number 6665), tang mounted long range peep sight, "7030" on the left side of the upper tang, the "HEPBURNS PAT/OCT 7TH 1879" marking on the left side of the frame, a multi-point checkered matching serialized forearm with nickel nose cap, and a multi-point checkered round knob pistol grip buttstock with low comb, no cheek rest, and a nickel plated Swiss buttplate. Matching serial numbers are located on the bottom of the barrel, forend, lower tang, buttstock, and buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel has 30% original blue finish concentrated in the lower areas and a pleasant smooth brown patina on the balance. The frame retains 70% of the original case colors. The hammer, trigger, and peep sight retain the vast majority of their bright blue finish. 90% of the original nickel plating remains on the forearm cap and buttplate. The stock and forearm are very fine and have crisp checkering, smooth oiled finish, minor scratches, a few dings, and some attractive striped figure on the butt. Mechanically excellent.
