Description:

One of approximately 1,604 business rifles, all of which were manufactured at the Bridgeport, Connecticut factory. This rifle shows some features out with the standard business rifle configuration, making it quite rare. The barrel has a blade front sight, Lawrence patent notch and folding ladder rear sight, the Bridgeport address and "Old Reliable" marking ahead of the rear sight and "J. P. LOWER/DENVER COL." and "BUSINESS 45" behind it. The bottom of the barrel is numbered "161645" and "47", with another "47" on the front of the action. Mounted with a finely figured smooth forearm and straight grip stock. The upper tang has been cut and replaced removing the serial number.

Rating Definition:

Good as modified during the period by mating an 1874 Business Rifle with a customized "1877" style handmade lock. It retains traces of blue finish with the balance a mottled grey patina including the replacement tang which is evenly worn with the action. The lightly sanded and refinished wood is very good with a few scattered hairline cracks and a few scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
