Description:

The included "Sharps Rifle Research" letter from Dr. Richard J. Labowskie indicates this rifle was part of an order of 20 Business and 20 Sporting rifles sent to N. Curry & Brother (major retailers) in San Francisco, California, from the Bridgeport factory on July 13, 1878. It is listed as a Model 1874 Business rifle with a .45 caliber round barrel, double set triggers, and a cost of $35. It currently features a heavy octagon barrel with a German silver blade front sight, "Old Reliable" and the Bridgeport address ahead of the Lawrence patent rear sight, "CALIBRE 40" on top at the breech, and "2 5/8" on the right flat; a Schnabel type forend, standard patent markings, the serial number on top, screw/taps for mounting a peep sight, double set triggers, and a smooth stock with steel rifle buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Good as possibly period rebarreled with mostly dark brown and gray patina overall, some slight oxidation, and mild overall wear. The wood is fair and has moderate scrapes and dings, some small chips, and dark refreshed oiled finish. Mechanically fine.
