Description:

The factory letter confirms this rifle was invoiced on 15 July 1875, to J.A. Jackman Jr. of Bloomington, Illinois, as a Model 1874 Sporting Rifle of standard weight (12 pounds or less) in .40 for $47. It also notes that the rifle was shipped with a set of reloading implements, 200 loaded cartridges, and 1000 primers, totaling $64.35. The rifle has a blade front sight, R.S. Lawrence notch and folding ladder rear sight, standard Hartford barrel markings, double set triggers, standard Sharps Rifle Co. patent marking on the left side of the action, smooth stock and forearm with pewter end cap, and rifle buttplate. The factory letter lists the sights as globe and peep. Matching numbers are found on the bottom of the barrel and upper tang.

Rating Definition:

Very good, retains traces original blue finish (stronger under forearm) thinning to a mostly grey patina. The receiver is a mottled grey patina. The wood is fine with minor to moderate dings and scratches throughout, a couple hairline cracks, and a minor chip at the buttplate tang. Mechanically excellent.
