The factory letter confirms this rifle was invoiced on 15 January 1878, to B. Kittredge & Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio, as a Model 1874 Sporting Rifle in .45 for $42 less 37 1/2 percent, a discount given due to the large volume of business created by the Kittredge company. It should be noted that many Kittredge guns were sent further west including being shipped to Walter Cooper of Bozeman, Montana. The rifle has a blade front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight, standard Bridgeport barrel markings, double set triggers, standard Sharps Rifle Co. patent marking on the left side of the action, smooth stock and forearm, and checkered buttplate. Matching numbers are found on the forearm and bottom of the barrel.

Rating Definition:

Fair, showing mostly a mottled grey patina with some patches of brown and some minor pitting. The wood is also fair with minor to moderate dings and scratches throughout, some chips missing from the forearm, and some signs of having been revarnished. Mechanically fine.
