Description:

3,881 octagon barrel Model 1874 sporting rifles were manufactured at Sharps' Bridgeport factory and within that group there is a tremendous amount of variation. The barrel has the "Old Reliable" marking followed by the Bridgeport address ahead of the rear sight and "CALIBRE 45" above "2 7/8" at the breech. It has windage adjustable globe front sight with spirit level, Lawrence patent folding ladder rear sight, tang peep sight graduated from 0 to 50 on the left side, double set triggers, heavy barrel (mostly likely used for buffalo hunting), and smooth shotgun style steel buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Good, retaining streaks of faded reapplied blue finish on the barrel; otherwise, the rifle has a mottled brown patina with scattered mild pitting. The sanded, refinished wood is fair with minor handling marks, buttstock cracked near the toe, a couple missing slivers and a crack on the forearm. Mechanically excellent.
