Description:

Morgan James of Utica, New York, built some of the most accurate rifles in American history from around 1830 to early 1860s and also manufactured early rifle scopes and reportedly was responsible for training the famed scope maker William Malcolm. A short false muzzle and starter are included. The barrel is equipped with both a dovetailed blade front sight and a ramp mounted ring front sight as well as an adjustable notch rear sight and a Lyman peep sight fitted to the breech section. It is equipped with a single set trigger. The barrel is marked "M. JAMES/UTICA N.Y" at the breech on the upper left flat. The action and furniture are scroll engraved. A stag is also featured on the patch box, and a brass dog is on the left side of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Good as polished and later custom ungraded with mix of silver-gray and gray patina throughout, some minor discoloration, spots of minor pitting, and generally minor wear. Mechanically fine (set trigger first).
