Originally manufactured in 1888 and subsequently professionally upgraded with profuse engraving, gold and silver inlay and deluxe carved stock. The receiver features near full coverage foliate scrollwork on a stippled background with gold inlaid scroll borders. The forend cap, magazine tube band, hammer, lever and buttplate are engraved and inlaid to match. The right side of the receiver has vignettes featuring a gold inlaid mountain lion and a gold and silver inlaid mountain goat. The left side of the receiver has a vignette of a gold inlaid bugling bull and cow elk in an engraved scene with a silver inlaid full moon. A gold inlaid bison head appears on the underside of the receiver. The right side of the receiver is signed with the engraver's name "L.F. SHERMAN" under the mountain lion inlay. Additional gold inlaid line motifs appear on the bolt. The barrel is adorned with double gold inlaid bands and profuse scrollwork at the muzzle and breech. Equipped with a dovetail blade front sight and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight with engraving and gold inlay. Mounted on a highly figured walnut straight grip stock with fancy checkering featuring a carved oak leaf and acorn motif.

Very fine as professionally upgraded/elaborately embellished, retaining 99% plus of the blue and casehardened finishes with limited handling evidence and crisp stock checkering. Mechanically excellent.
