Originally manufactured in 1889 as a third model with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated rear edge and subsequently professionally custom embellished with profuse engraving, gold inlay and deluxe stock. The receiver features near full coverage foliate scrollwork on a stippled background with gold inlaid scroll borders. The side plates feature a vignette of a gold inlaid California grizzly bear in a woodland scene. The underside of the receiver is inscribed with the engraver's name "L.F. SHERMAN" on a ribbon and has a discreet recent Birmingham nitro proof. The forend cap, magazine band, hammer, dust cover, lever and buttplate are engraved and inlaid to match. The barrel is adorned with gold and silver bands and profuse scrollwork at the muzzle and breech. Equipped with a dovetail blade front sight and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sight with engraving and inlay. Remarked caliber designations are found on the barrel and cartridge elevator. Mounted on a highly figured walnut straight grip stock with fine fancy checkering.

Very fine overall as professionally upgraded/elaborately embellished, retaining 99% plus of the blue and casehardened finishes showing limited handling evidence and crisp stock checkering. The barrel is sleeved. Mechanically excellent.
