This is an extremely fine Winchester 1876 "Centennial Model" Lever Action Sporting Rifle that was manufactured in 1882. This rifle has the "Third Model" receiver with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated rear edge. The rifle is accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum Search Form that identifies it as a rifle in .45-60 caliber with 26-inch octagon barrel and plain trigger. The letter lists "Date In: 12-27-1882" and "Date Shipped: 8-14-84". The 26-inch octagon barrel, full length magazine, forearm cap, receiver, bolt dust cover and crescent buttplate have a blue finish. The loading gate is niter blue. The hammer, trigger and lever are casehardened. The stock and forearm are straight grain, oil-finished, American walnut. The barrel has a standard sporting style front sight with nickel-silver blade and a folding leaf rear sight graduated to "10" and marked "1876" at the top of the leaf. The upper receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped. The crescent buttplate has a sliding brass trap door. The upper tang is roll-stamped: "{ MODEL 1876. }" in fancy letters with foliate devices at either end. The serial number is stamped in script numerals on the lower tang between the lever latch and the rear tang screw.

Extremely fine. This rifle is all original and retains 75% plus of the original blue finish overall. The barrel and magazine retain nearly all of the blue finish with some very light edge wear and traces of age spotting. The barrel and caliber markings are crisp. The receiver has nearly all of the blue finish with traces of high point wear and some scattered age spotting. Most of the blue finish is present on the dust cover and bolt. The loading gate retains 75% of the bright original nitre blue finish. The buttplate has 60% of the finish with some finish loss and light pitting on the heel and toe. The hammer, lever and trigger retain 60% plus of the subdued case colors. The stock and forearm remain in very fine condition with some finish wear on the forearm and a number of shallow handling marks on the lower left side of the stock near the butt. This is an exceptional example of a scarce and very desirable Winchester 1876 "Centennial Model" Lever Action Rifle.
