The Second Model is identified by the serial number range of approximately 300-679 as well as the circular magazine cover. It has blade and notch sights offset to the left, "ADDRESS/P.W. PORTER/NEW-YORK" and "P.W. PORTER'S/PATENT/1851" on the upper left barrel flat, a serpentine loading lever, turnscrew secured turret cover, smooth buttstock with standard rifle buttplate, and the matching serial number on the various main components.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal has dark brown and mottled gray patina, minor oxidation, and mild overall wear. The screw for the magazine cover is absent. The stock has a period spliced repair at the top of the wrist, mild edge wear, and numerous small dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
