Description:

This is one of 4,000 New Model carbines manufactured by Evans Repeating Rifle Co. from 1877-1879. The top of the barrel is marked "EVANS REPEATING RIFLE MECHANIC FALLS, ME. PAT. DEC. 8, 1868 & SEPT. 16, 1871 U.S.A." ahead of the rear sight. The underside has a "*" and "4." "L.4." is marked on top of the action. It has a "pinched" blade front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight, smooth forearm, gilding on some of the lever and buttplate as well as some smaller components, and attractive deluxe figured buttstock. Includes documents indicating this gun was brought back from Spain in the 1960s by U.S. Army Captain John L. Barnes of the Joint United States Military Assistance Group-Military Assistance Advisory Group (JUSMG-MAAG) in Madrid.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 85% plus of the period refinished blue, 70% of the period re-plated gold on the lever, gray and brown patina on most of the balance, areas of mild oxidation, and some scattered scratches and marks. The wood is fine with some chipping at the edges of the buttstock, general scrapes and pressure marks, and attractive figure. Mechanically fine.
