Description:

Manufactured in London in 1855 within the London Model 1851 Navy range with the distinctive London Navy iron grip frame, London proofmarks, rounded screw heads, bordered knurling on the hammer spur, "-ADDRESS COL. COLT. LONDON-" on the barrel, standard cone and hammer notch sights, "COLTS/PATENT" marking on the frame, standard cylinder roll-scene, and all matching serial numbers, including the grip which has the serial number hand marked in ink in the back strap mortise. The barrel length is very unusual and might be original. If not, it was evidently done by a professional early in the period of use based on the wear patterns. The case contains lead balls, a brass Hawksley flask, L-shaped combination tool, iron Colt patent bullet mold, and an Eley Bro. cap tin.

Rating Definition:

Very good with 50% original blue on the period shortened barrel along with light brown patina, cleaned cylinder and grip straps displaying mostly silver-gray patina, patches of original bright blue finish in the protected areas, some minor pitting at the breech, strong original niter blue on the sides of the trigger, 20% original case colors, some cleaning related discoloration on the left side of the frame, and various marks and scratches, including dings concentrated around the wedge on the right. The slightly undersized replacement grip is fine and has half of the original varnish, moderate edge wear, small chips at the toe, and general scrapes and pressure marks throughout. Mechanically excellent. The relined case is good and has an absent keyhole plate. The refinished mold is good with varnish over the finish. The flask is fair and has aged patina and numerous dings.
