These "KM" marked revolvers and accessories are still regularly listed today as ordered by the Austrian government in 1859 and used by the Austrian Kriegsmarine due to earlier publications such as Swayze's "'51 Colt Navies" listing them as such; however, more recently discovered records indicate they were actually part of a larger shipment of 3,450 revolver seized by Prussian officials in August of 1855 while on their way to Russia during the Crimean War, and 1,000 were issued and used by the Prussian Koenigliche Marine (Royal Navy). Given the revolvers were manufactured around 1853 and 1854 and thus pre-date the Austrian orders by several years, this makes more sense as well. The revolver was manufactured in 1853 has a brass cone front sight, the New York City address, standard patent markings, matching serial numbers, and "KM/529 on the top of the back strap. The back strap also has the following spurious inscription: "Cu/Wilhelm Meinhardt/MARZ. 14. 1854/Von Franz Joseph I" on the back and "Fur Ritterlich" (For Chivalry/Gallantry) on the butt. The holster has a pouch containing the capper which also has a lanyard connecting it to the holster flap and a second pouch for holder paper cartridges. The back of the holster has "799." in white paint, and these accessories all have "KM" markings, and the flask has "K.M./812."

Fine with 30% original thinning blue finish on the barrel, traces of original blue on the cylinder, light original case colors on the hammer and loading lever, mostly silver-gray frame, minor oxidation, brown and gray patina on the balance of the steel, 60% of the replated silver on the grip frame exhibiting a dark patina, and crisp markings and inscription. The grip is very good with strong varnish finish, mild lower edge wear, and some light scratches and marks. Mechanically excellent. The accessories are all fine with mild aging, a tear in the holster flap at the button hole, some crackling of the leather, aged patina on the flask and capper, and a few minor dents in the flask.
