Description:

This revolver is pictured on page 40 of "Manhattan Firearms" by Nutter. Per the consignor, it is also the only known example with the "BACON MF'G CO. NORWICH, CONN./DEPOT 297 BROADWAY N.Y." barrel address. This is an earlier First Model and would have been manufactured around the late 1850s. It has the matching serial number "178" on the wedge, cylinder, toe, and right grip. "169" is on the loading leaver catch. "176" is on the loading lever. The barrel has a cone front sight. The cylinder has the sporting roll scenes. The frame has scrollwork. The custom made case has an aged reproduction Bacon trade label related to their earlier pepperboxes and rifles and contains an ornate powder flask, dual cavity bullet mold, L-shaped combination tool, key, bore rod, cap tin, and several lead balls.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% of the bright blue and silver plating, significant original case colors on the loading lever and hammer, flaking on the back strap and cylinder, a crack in the underside of the left grip, strong varnished finish on the outside of the grips, minor marks and scratches, some partially obscured cylinder scenes, distinct engraving, and minor overall wear. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are very good with mild storage wear.
