Edward Dalton of Dublin was active as a gunmaker c. 1772-1783. The hallmarks on the silver are not legible, but based on Dalton's period of activity, these pistols were built in the era of the American Revolution. The silver thumb escutcheons have a lion rampant over a monogram that appears to be "TE." The barrels have gold floral motifs including fleurs-de-lis and the Dublin Castle proof. The top of the barrels at the breech have a Dalton's large maker's mark also inlaid with gold, and the vents also have gold liners. The stepped lock plates have "DALTON" in a banner at center and floral patterns. The front side blade "spider" bases, pierced side plates, ramrod pipes, floral pattern trigger guards, thumb escutcheons, and pommel caps are all silver. The latter have floral patterns on the "tendrils" and grotesque masks on the caps.

Very good as partially restored, including replacement hammer and refinished and repaired stock. The barrel and lock have gray patina and mild pitting and much of the gold fill remains in the barrel markings. The silver furniture has aged patina and has crisp designs. The stock carving is distinct, and there are some minor scratches, dings, and slight cracks. Mechanically fine.
