1st Model Merwin Hulbert Frontier Army Single Action Revolver with scarce factory engraving and pearl grips. The revolver has the open top frame, cylinder with scoop flutes, flat butt and two screws on the right side of the frame above the trigger guard that distinguish the 1st Model Frontier Army revolvers. The revolver is nickel plated with casehardened hammer and trigger. The serial number is located on the butt behind the lanyard loop. The assembly number, "2294" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder, front face of the barrel lug and on the cylinder pin. The top of the barrel has the one-line marking: "MERWIN HULBERT & Co. New York, U.S.A. Pat. Jan.24. Apr.21.Dec.15.74. Aug.3.75.July 11.76.Apr.17.77.Pat's Mar.6.77." The left side of the barrel is marked: "THE HOPKINS & ALLEN Manufacturing Co, Norwich, Conn. U.S.A." The revolver is fully decorated with the distinctive Merwin Hulbert "punch dot" factory engraving. The engraving features a Mexican Eagle and Snake motif on the left side of the frame and a round panel on the right side of the frame that depicts a mountain village or castle and arched bridge. The revolver has factory fitted, two-piece pearl grips.

Very fine. The revolver has 85% of the original nickel-plated finish. The revolver shows light handling and storage wear with scattered minor flaking on the barrel and frame. The casehardened finish on the hammer and trigger has faded but shows traces of the original muted case colors. The markings are sharp and the engraving is crisp and deep. The pearl grips are in very fine condition; wear is limited to some minor scratches on the top and chip on the toe of the right grip. This is an attractive example of an early production Merwin Hulbert 1st Model Frontier Army Single Action Revolver with very desirable factory engraving.
