Description:

Started by a young German immigrant, the August Buermann Manufacturing Company was in operation during the late 19th and early 20th century in Newark, New Jersey. They would go on to become one of the most famous and widespread spur manufacturers in the U.S., shipping their spurs all over the world. This pair was possibly manufactured as early as the 1870s-1880s. They show the typical "O.K." style with sawtoothed rowels as well as having leather wrapped heel bands, heel chains, and carved California style "dove wing" straps. Provenance: Discovered by an antique dealer in upstate New York in 2012. Bruce Bartlett Collection. Heel band width: 1 3/4" Shanks: 2" Rowel diameter: 2 1/8" Heel opening: 3 3/4".

Rating Definition:

Fair, with a mostly brown patina and moderate oxidation. The leather is fine showing mild wear and handling marks consistent with use.
