Description:

These straight heel band double mounted and engraved spurs are mounted with a nickel "CC" on each lateral heel band and are marked "3582/CATES" on each medial arm of the heel band. They have swinging buttons and gal-leg shanks mounted with copper and silver, and toothed "starburst" rowels with alternating sharp and blunt points. Jerry Cates was a well respected contemporary spur maker who was posthumously honored by the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum with the Chester A. Reynolds Award for his contribution to the legacy of the American West. Heel band width: 1" Shanks: 2 5/8" Rowel diameter: 2" Heel opening: 3 3/8".

Rating Definition:

Fine, showing a mostly brown patina with flashes of the bright finish beneath. The nickel mountings are mostly bright with the copper slightly age darkened. There are some scattered patches of minor oxidation.
