This shotgun is listed by serial number in the "Historic Ithaca Guns" list on page 223 of "The Ithaca Gun Company: From the Beginning" by Walter Claude Snyder. The list entry states "1 - Ithaca Model 37 Gas Operated Semi-automatic Prototype, 20 ga., 24" barrel, Ser. No. EX1. This gun was manufactured in 1950". The shotgun is completely unmarked with the exception of the experimental serial number "EX1" on the underside of the receiver. With a 2 3/4 inch chamber, and modified choke. Fancy checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with a checkered Winchester Repeating Arms buttplate. Length of pull is 13 1/2 inches. Copies of the list from the book are included.

Very fine. 85% original blue finish remains with small scratches and dings, mild edge wear, and visible flaking on the left side of the receiver. The wood is also very fine with a small crack at the front left of the forearm, small filled chip at the rear, well defined checkering, and small dings throughout. Mechanically functions, but requires internal release of obscure lever to release bolt.
