Description:

This is an example of a DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine that is complete with its shoulder stock. This series of carbine was the first attempt by DWM to compete on the European market with a light weight rifle substitute carbine. This model proved to be very popular and highly sought after by many European dignitaries and Kings. These pistols were produced in two contract runs with this carbine being manufactured in the second contract. It has all early Luger features such as the short style frame with the double flat mainsprings and grip safety. It has the short barrel extension with the early flat breech bolt, dished toggles with a toggle lock on the right side. Since this is a carbine the front of the frame has a short steel hanger attached to it that holds the short walnut forend. The forearm contains a small spring assembly that engages a recoil lug on the underside of the barrel which actually functions as an accelerator to help in cycling the pistol during firing, due to the longer/heavier carbine barrel. The top of the chamber is blank and the front toggle has the DWM logo. It has an 11 3/4 inch barrel, that is fitted with a three position rear sight (adjustable from 100-300 meters) with a ramp front sight. The full serial number "24532" is stamped on the underside of the frame extension, and barrel. The last two digits of the serial number (32) are stamped on the bottom of the recoil lug, the grip safety, trigger, takedown lever, rear of the toggle and breech bolt. The last three digits of the serial number (532) are also stamped on the inside of the forearm. It also comes with an original Luger carbine walnut shoulder stock that the top of the stock iron has been renumbered to match the pistol. As noted this carbine comes with a checkered walnut forearm, checkered buttstock with a black horn buttplate and checkered matching numbered walnut grips. The back side of each grip is proofed with a single crown/Script letter "D" over the last two digits of the serial number (32). The buttstock and forearm are both correctly fitted with sling swivels. It comes with one polished steel unmarked magazine with a varnished unmarked walnut base. Included is a newly manufactured custom walnut storage/display case.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 70% of the faded original blue finish overall with thinning and blue loss on the front frame rails, side plate and front and rear grip straps that are mixed with some light brown patina. The refinished forend has a three inch crack on the top, front edge of the forend. The checkering is still nice and sharp/distinct with only minor handling marks. The old custom grips are in fine condition with nice distinct checking on both sides, with an added border around the edge with a large prominent diamond shape inletted into the center of each grip panel. The stock is in good condition, having been revarnished with nice distinct checkering on both sides. The refinished, renumbered stock iron retains half of its blued finish. The additional walnut display cased is in fine condition. A very nice looking early DWM model 1902 Luger Carbine.
