Description:

This is a very desirable Mauser manufactured contract Artillery Luger rig manufactured for the country of Persia (Iran) circa 1935/36. This example is complete with an original (non-matching) Persian board stock, original leather artillery holster, straps, double magazine pouch and three (total) original Persian magazines. There were a total of 2,000 Persian contract Lugers manufactured; 1,000 four-inch barreled models and 1,000 eight-inch Artillery models. The Artillery model was an exact duplicate of the WWI German Artillery Luger except all the markings and numbering are in Farsi. The chamber area of the pistol is marked with the Persian crest, and the front toggle also marked in Farsi for the Mauser factory. The left side of the barrel extension is marked in Farsi, and the left side is marked with the Mauser crown over "U" commercial proofmark. The full serial "3080," which is marked in Farsi, is stamped on the front of the frame and the left side of the barrel extension, as well as the last two digits of the serial number ("80") stamped in Farsi on many of the smaller parts to include both grips, except all three magazines. The magazines have the unmarked nickel plated magazine bodies with aluminum bases. The bases are stamped with the following serial numbers in Farsi; 1552v, 3889v, and 3305v. Obviously with the small letter "v" suffix they were pulled directly from the 1936 Mauser production run of commercial/military contract magazine and used for this Persian contract. It is fitted with matching checkered walnut grips. This Luger is complete with an original Persian contract Artillery board stock that is also numbered in Farsi on the side with "3150". This fine Artillery Luger includes an original Persian contract , unmarked brown leather artillery holster, an unmarked, brown double leather double magazine pouch, an unmarked takedown tool and an unmarked artillery cleaning rod and shoulder straps. The pistol has the standard rust blue finish with straw colored small components.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% plus of the original blue finish overall, edge and high spot wear, and blue loss on the side plate hump, front frame rails and muzzle area. The front and rear grip straps both show slight oxidation of the blue finish with a gray patina tone in the middle of the rear strap. The various smaller parts retain 40% of their original straw colors overall with slight more color in the protected areas. The board stock is in very fine condition overall with an attractive wood grain visible on the sides and 95% blue on the attaching iron. The holster and double magazine pouch are both in very good condition overall with a nice original medium brown color, tight stitching, and both showing minor age cracking on the face of the leather. The reproduction shoulder straps are in very fine condition. A very nice looking Persian contract Artillery Luger rig.
