Description:

The Reverend Alexander Forsyth invented the first successful percussion lock around 1805. This pistol appears to be one of the 20th century forgeries of his work. The barrel has an unclear maker's name followed by "London" in script, a small blade front sight, and scroll border at the breech. The upper tang has a small notch rear sight. The various parts have a mix of border, floral, and martial engraving. The lock has "FORSYTH./PATENT." at the center, straight rather than tapered shaft, and no markings on the magazine.

Rating Definition:

Good as 20th century modified to present configuration with mottled gray patina, mild pitting, and mild wear on most of the metal surfaces; brighter lock with some tool marks, mostly crisp checkering on the wrist, some cracks and material absent on the forend, tension crack at the rear lock screw on the left, and mild overall wear. Mechanically fine.
