Description:

Dated "1917" on the front sight base and on top of the chamber, with the "DWM" monogram on the front toggle link, "crown" firing proofs on the barrel, extension and breechblock; and the "crown/M" Navy proof twice on the extension and once on the barrel. The left frame rail is marked "GERMANY", indicating post-WWI commercial export to the United States; in some cases, these pistols were stripped of their original barrels, shipped to the United States, and then had a new barrel installed using DWM factory-original machinery. Minus the unnumbered magazine, the Luger has matching commercial-pattern serial numbers on the exterior. "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" marked upper safety area and extractor, with straw finished small parts, niter blue pins and springs, checkered grips, and a nickel-finished magazine with concentric circle decorated hardwood base.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 80% of the blue finish, showing some bright high edge wear, scattered spotting and hints of brown and gray patina on some components. The small parts retain about 30% dark straw color, with bright wear or a mixed gray on the remainder. The spring for the hold open device is brass, possibly a replacement. The grips are fine, with some flat spots, dark areas and dents. Mechanically excellent.
