Description:

Per Blackmore's "Gunmakers of London," the "I./PARR" signature on the lock and lack of "LONDON" marking suggests this pistol was likely manufactured by John Parr of Liverpool in the late 1700s rather than his son James Parr who continued the family business until around 1820. John Parr and other members of the family were also active in the Atlantic slave trade and other businesses. The smoothbore barrel has pre-1813 Birmingham proofs, a gold lined vent, and light scroll engraving. The lock also has scroll, border, and floral engraving; a large frizzen spring roller, and a sliding half-cock safety. The trigger guard and other furniture are silver/silver plated and have a variety of primarily martial patterns along with a grotesque mask cap. A tag for The National Museum of History and Technology at the Smithsonian is hung from the trigger guard. That was the name of the National Museum of American History from its opening in 1964 to 1980.

Rating Definition:

Fair with light gray patina and minor pitting on the lock and barrel, natural aged patina on the silver, generally crisp engraving and markings, minor dings and scratches, and mild overall wear. The stock is good and has some minor chips and light scratches and pressure marks. Mechanically excellent.
