Description:

Johann Jakob Behr was active around 1690-1740 in Maastricht. This gun is approximately 76 inches in overall length. The swamped smoothbore barrel has blade and notch sights, and the barrel tang is also grooved to be used as a rear sight before the notch sight was added in the period. The lock is signed "I.I. BEHR." It has an iron side plate, thumb plate, and trigger guard and a brass buttplate. The stock has stylized raised flats and molding and "X 14" carved on the bottom of the butt.

Rating Definition:

Fair with mottled gray and brown patina, extensive moderate pitting throughout, aged patina on the brass, several chips and cracks along the stock, some stabilizing repairs at the muzzle, a few gaps, numerous small insect holes, and numerous scrapes, dings, and scratches from use and age. Mechanically fine.
