Beautiful floral motifs are engraved on the frame, cylinder, trigger guard, grip straps and barrel lug. Gold inlaid line and dot motifs appear on the cylinder and top strap. An engraved band is featured at the muzzle. The right barrel flat is engraved "E. PERTUISET A. PARIS." "ACIER FONDU" is marked on the left side of the barrel lug. A lanyard ring is mounted on the butt. The serial number is on the right side of the grip frame. The French cut case is lined in purple velvet and has "E. PERTUISET/A/PARIS" embossed in gold on the interior of the lid padding and a blank brass plaque on the exterior of the lid. The case contains an oiler, screwdriver, bore rod and cartridge block. Besides a French arms trader, Eugene Pertuiset (1833-1909) was big African cat hunter, explorer, writer, painter, and art and weapons collector. In 1873, he was commissioned by Chilean authorities to carry out an industrial and scientific mission to Tierra del Fuego. Pertuiset was memorialized in Manet's "Monsieur Pertuiset, The Lion Hunter," an oil on canvas painting that depicted Pertuiset as a big cat hunter.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 80% bright original high polish blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The engraving is crisp. The grips are excellent with some minor handing evidence and exhibiting attractive grain and color. The action functions but needs work as the trigger does not properly reset after being pulled. The case is fine showing minor handling/storage marks and some fading and high spot wear on the lining. An attractive cased revolver for your growing antique European arms collection.
