Description:

Manufactured in the 1880s with total production estimated at a few thousand. Adding to the rarity of this revolver is the factory engraving which consists of scrollwork and floral patterns with a dog field scene on the left side plate. Gold plating over nickel plating on the cylinder, casehardened hammer and trigger, and remaining surfaces nickel plated. Matching serial numbers are found on the grip frame, right grip panel and barrel. The cylinder is numbered "4869," possibly a factory error. It has the two-line address/patent dates marking on the rib, "38 CAL" on the left side of the frame, folding hammer spur and loading gate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 95% plus original nickel plating taking on an attractive frost appearance. 80% original gold plating remains on the cylinder with the nickel base on the balance. The engraving is crisp. The grips are excellent with crisp checkering overall. Action cycles when trigger is pulled but the hammer does not hold at the full cock position.
