Description:

Established in 1810 by Joseph Mappin, the Mappin firm became Mappin Brothers in 1852, when the operation was taken over by his four sons. One of the sons, John, would strike out on his own, and his firm of Mappin & Webb would later acquire Mappin Brothers in 1903. Measuring 15 1/2 inches overall, with a 9 1/8 inch clip point blade, bearing a 10-pointed star next to "MAPPIN/ BROTHERS" and "THE HUNTERS COMPANION", with "QUEEN'S/CUTLERY WORKS/SHEFFIELD" on the ricasso. The guard is German silver, with a pair of stag grip panels. A set of tools are concealed inside the grip; a 3 3/8 inch corkscrew, 3 1/4 inch hand drill bit, tweezers, pick, and a 5/8 inch wide, 1/2 inch long bloodletting fleam on a 4 3/8 inch long base. With a black leather sheath.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The very fine blade is bright overall, with some edge nickson edge, mild wear, and scattered blemishes. The tools are in similar condition, with mild handling marks on the hilt. The sheath is fine, with opening seams and mild scuffs and dents.
