This revolver was manufactured in 1929 and is chambered for both .44 Russian and .44 S&W Special cartridges. Estimates list only 506 Single Action Army revolvers manufactured for .44 S&W Special. Prior to the introduction of the .44 Special to the Colt line, only 154 Single Action Army revolver were manufactured for the .44 Russian cartridge upon which the .44 Special was based. Matching serial numbers are found on the frame, trigger guard, back strap and both grip panels. Matching assembly numbers are found on the loading gate and rear of the frame. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with the number "1" over the Colt "VP" proof mark. The barrel has the one-line address on top and "RUSSIAN AND/S&W SPECIAL" followed by "44" on the left side.

Fine. Retaining 70% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina and numerous dents/dings visible on butt. 60% original case colors remain on the hammer and frame. There is scattered minor patches of dark surface rust visible overall. The transverse cylinder retention assembly is a non-factory replacement. The replacement grips are fine with a sliver missing near the bottom (right panel), some minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. The half-cock notch is worn, otherwise mechanically good.
