The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 7 1/2 inch barrel in .44 caliber, blue finish, carved steer head motif stocks (also confirms the material) and 4 lb trigger pull when shipped on April 17, 1926, to G.W. Shroyer & Co. of Dayton, Ohio. The revolver has standard Colt markings including "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER" on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with the number "3" above the Colt triangle proof. Matching serial numbers are found on the frame, trigger guard and back strap, and the cylinder is numbered to the gun ("15"). The rare factory documented grips have silver Rampant Colt medallions and the right panel has a high relief carved steer head. As Colt historian and author R.L. Wilson noted, only "a few" SAA had factory hand carved steer head motif grips.

Excellent, retaining 97% original blue finish with slight thinning on the back strap and right upper trigger guard strap with cylinder drag lines. 90% original case colors remain on the hammer and frame. The grips are also excellent with limited handling evidence and attractive color and grain pattern. Mechanically excellent. This highly desirable and high condition first generation Colt Frontier Six Shooter with very scarce factory documented carved steer head grip will be a welcome addition to any Colt SAA collection.
