Manufactured in 1895. The 3 1/2 inch barrel has the two-line Hartford address inside a scalloped engraved oval on top and "COLT. D.A. 38" inside a scalloped engraved oval on the left side. The left side of the frame has the three-line, three patent date marking. The revolver was profusely engraved by Nimschke with a beautifully executed floral scroll pattern featured on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and cylinder flats. The flats of the cylinder exhibit alternating engraved floral scroll patterns. The sides of the trigger guard are engraved with a checkered pattern. The back strap features a checkered pattern engraving with floral scroll engraved wedges at the top and bottom. The top of the back strap has an engraved monogram. 95% plus of the metal surfaces are engraved. The frame and grips straps have matching numbers and the assembly number "107" is marked on the loading gate. Blue finish with niter blue hammer featuring polished sides and a casehardened frame. The one-piece walnut grip is checkered and a lanyard ring is mounted on the bird head butt. Writer recalls this, or a similar example to have once been in the Dr. Marohn collection of Colt Double Action Model 1877 revolvers.

Fine. The full coverage, masterfully embellished revolver retains 75% of the original blue finish and case colors which is mostly contained in the protected areas and the hammer retains strong traces of niter blue finish, otherwise the metal surfaces have an attractive smooth gray patina. The grip is very fine showing high edge wear and a few minor handling marks with overall crisp checkering. Mechanically fine.
