Description:

This Colt Single Action Army revolver was manufactured in 1920, and is complete with the renumbered to match royal blue cardboard carton. The carton has a blue and white label on one end that reads: "5 1/2 Colt's Army S.A. Revolver. .45". A smaller blue label applied on the first label below the "Colt" marking reads: "WOOD BLUE." and identifies the grips and finish. The revolvers serial number, "338381" is written in pencil (see above) across the bottom of the box on the same end as the label. The revolver has the Colt commercial blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame, loading gate and hammer are color casehardened. The trigger and screws are bright blue. The hammer has border-less knurling on the spur. The revolver is fitted with the scarce and very desirable, two-piece, checkered walnut grips with nickel-silver Colt medallions at the top. The revolver serial number, "338381" is written in pencil on the inside of both grips. The revolver serial number, "338381" is located on the bottom of the frame, bottom of the back strap and the inside of the trigger guard on the left side beneath the grip. The partial serial number "81" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder between the chambers. All of the visible serial numbers match. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in one line. The caliber "45 COLT" is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt "Three-Date/Two-Line" patent marking followed by the Rampant Colt trademark. The Colt "Triangle/VP" proofmark is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow. The assembly number "677" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate and on the right side of the frame beneath the grip.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel and ejector housing have 97% of the original blue finish with traces of edge wear at the muzzle and leading edge of the ejector housing. The cylinder has about 95% of the blue finish with light turn marks. Nearly all of the blue remains on the trigger guard and grip strap. The back strap has several light handling marks with traces of age spotting. The frame, loading gate and hammer have 98% of the casehardened finish with strong case colors. The modern replacement checkered walnut medallion grips are in near mint condition with sharp checkering and nearly all of the finish. The action functions perfectly. The carton is in good overall condition with flaking on the sides of the lid and some breaks on the edges. The end labels remain in fine condition. This is an outstanding example of a 1920 production Colt Single Action Army revolver.
