BIRMINGHAM”, engraved “.500 3” CASE/80 GRAINS CORDITE & 570 GRAINS BULLET”, London nitro (Cordite) proof marks struck on the left side and importers details “WOODCOCK HILL BENTON PA” engraved on the underside beneath the forearm. Ramp mounted blade front sight and block mounted express rear sight of one standing and one folding leaf each with platinum inlaid center line and folding ladder sight calibrated to 1000 yards. The casehardened action is engraved with a double border line and fitted with tang mounted safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”. Figured walnut 14 ½ inch pistol grip stock with checkered grip and forearm. The pistol grip has a casehardened cap and the butt is fitted with rubber recoil pad and stamped on the underside with the inventory number “93/211”. The consignor informs us that he was told when he purchased this rifle that it had formerly been part of The Kynoch Collection. A very similar P. Webley & Son falling block rifle in .450 caliber with the serial number 10407, two digits beyond this present rifle, was sold by Sotheby’s, Billingshurst, on October 10, 1990, lot 294, from The Kynoch Collection (formerly The Nobel Explosives Company Collection) of Military and Sporting Firearms indicating that this could very well have been the case.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 90% plus original blue finish remains showing mild muzzle wear and some light spotting. The 100 yard marked notch rear sight is dented. 75% original case colors remain on the receiver, trigger guard and lever. The wood is fine with hand marked "500 3"", short hairline stress cracks near the upper tang, dings and scratches, blemishes in the checkering and cracked recoil pad.
