Johann Peterlongo (1826-1898) was a gunsmith and retailer in Innsbruck, Austria, in the mid to late 19th century. The barrel has a dovetailed bead front sight, Marble filler block in the rear dovetail, a matte solid rib with "JOH. PETERLONGO, INNSBRUCK." inlaid in gold and "H. WEISS." inscribed towards the breech end, and flourishes of golden floral patterns at the muzzle, front of the forend, and breech. The latter is also gold banded. The action has a gold inlaid target on top of the ring, surrounded by ornate engraving, a running stag in a detailed scene on the right side of the magazine, a bear reaching up to a gold inlaid target on the left side of the magazine, mostly traditional black leaf engraving throughout, a Lyman peep side mounted on the rear left, door on the bottom of the magazine, and "2,57 g G.B.P/St.m.G." on the left side of the receiver ring. The bolt has "S," "crown," "crown/N," and "770" on the bottom of the bolt handle. The bird's eye maple stock has multi-point pattern checkering on the forend and semi-pistol grip, a shadow line cheek rest, and basket weave pattern buttplate.

Very fine with 95% plus original blue and gold inlaid finish, attractive casehardened colors with the balance silvered out gray on the receiver and some minor spotting. The stock is also very fine and has crisp checkering, beautiful patterns, smooth finish, and minor scratches. Mechanically excellent.
