Description:

According to the Colt factory letter, this pistol was part of a 5-piece shipment to W.S. Brown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 6, 1903. The Adams letter is dated to 2007, identifies John J. Adams Senior as the engraver, and records an "antique nickel" finish, "original" grips and a C+ grade engraving. Aside from the serial number, most of the original markings have been eliminated, with 80%+ of the surface covered in fine engraving. Most of the decoration is in a dot-backed scroll pattern, with broad foliate borders around the frame, dotted checkerboards on the sides of the trigger guard, and a prominent Rampant Colt on top of the slide. The slide is numbered to match the frame, with "J.ADAMS" on the back. The small parts show a fine niter blue, and the grips are fitted with a set of "front facing" Rampant Colt medallions.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall as master embellished by John Adams Sr, with 98% plus "antique" nickel, showing some minor handling marks. The niter blue components are also excellent, and the grips show attractive grain and color. Mechanically needs repair as the hammer stays cocked.
