The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 4 inch barrel, Baughman quick draw front sight on King ramp, square notch rear sight, blue finish, and checkered walnut Magna grips when shipped to the Kansas City Police Department, Kansas City, MO on September 7, 1939. This shipment was for 250 units with registration numbers 4987-5236. Scarce and desirable short barrel lengths such as 4 inches were popular with law enforcement. Standard S&W factory markings with "REG. 4989" stamped on the inside of the frame. Right grip panel numbered to a different gun. Matching numbers on butt, cylinder and ejector shroud.

Very fine overall, retaining 99% professional factory quality refinished nickel with a light cylinder drag line, some scattered minor handling evidence and crisp grip checkering overall. 60% of the case colors remain. Mechanically excellent.
