Description:

This is a unique example of a Model 1908 First Issue Luger that was possibly subsequently reworked or produced as a Commercial model using a 1908 military frame prior to 1914. It can be identified by the "c" suffix letter code on the serial number and chamber date of 1910, both like the military Lugers, however it has all other attributes of a commercial Luger. It has the standard DWM monogram on the front toggle with the pre-1913 "Crown/B and U" proofs on the left side of the barrel extension and underside of the barrel. The breech block still has the remnants of the Imperial Eagle military firing proof. The underside of the barrel and front of the frame are both stamped with the full serial number "2289c" with no number on the side of barrel extension, however it is stamped "89" on the recoil lug. It has the commercial style serial numbering on the smaller parts. It has the standard "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" marked upper safety position and extractor and no stock lug on the back strap. It is fitted with standard checkered walnut grips and comes with two nickel plated magazine with unmarked wooden bases. It has a rust blued finish with straw colored small parts with the heat blued grip screws, and springs. It is complete with an early unmarked commercial holster with the magazine pouch and short cleaning rod on the outside of the holster with the combination takedown tool and pin-punch pouch on the inside of the flap.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus of the arsenal blue finish with edge and high spot wear with thinning on the grip straps. The smaller parts retain 98% of their restrawed colors overall. The walnut grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct checking on both sides. Mechanically excellent. The holster is in fair condition with much of the outside leather surface worn or flaked off. Certainly an interesting unexplained DWM 1908 Commercial/Military Luger.
