Description:

Manufactured for the use of the German Imperial Navy, the Navy Model Lugers survived in limited quantities due to both the rigors of sea/coastline service and deliberate destruction in the aftermath of World War I. This particular example was a First Issue Navy with a Second Issue style safety; the Second Issue was brought out with an eye for greater uniformity between German-issued service pistols. Blade front and 100-200 meter adjustable notch rear sight, with the blank chamber, "DWM" monogram, and "W.D./232" on the back strap, indicating the pistol was part of the inventory at Werdt Danzig, a major Kaiserliche Marine shipyard and nerve center. The safety lever now functions in the down position, with the original lower "GESICHERT" ground (but still legible) and a new one added to the upper position with individual hand stamps. "Crown" and "crown/M" proofs are present on multiple parts, and aside from the magazine the external parts are matching. Fitted with a set of straw finished small parts, niter blue pins and springs, and a nickel finished magazine with smooth wood base numbered "1718/a/+".

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 75% of the original blue finish, showing bright edge wear, scattered dings and light scratches, and a few patches of brown and gray patina, concentrated on the grip straps. 60% of the straw colors are present on the small parts, and a small chip is absent from the left grip panel, with some dents and flat spots on both sides. Mechanically excellent.
