Description:

This is an excellent example of a scarce, early DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine that is complete with an original and matching checkered carbine shoulder stock. This example is all original and showing only minor handling marks and light use overall. This early Luger carbine is accompanied by an excellent contemporary leather bound walnut display/storage case. These Luger carbines were an early attempt to produce a lightweight rifle substitute to compete with the various stocked pistols being produced throughout Europe at the time. This type of Luger is fitted with a short walnut forend that houses a small spring accelerator that is designed to help cycle the longer and heavier barrel during firing. This forend is attached to a small hanger mounted on the front end of the frame. These 1902 carbines have the desirable early features such as: the long old style frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small flat extractor spring. The top of the chamber is blank and the front toggle has the standard DWM logo. The full serial number (23527) is correctly marked on the underside of the frame extension and the underside of the barrel with the last two digits of the serial number (27) marked on the various small parts. The forend is correctly numbered (527) inside the frame extension cutout. Both grips are unnumbered, however both carry a small asterisk on the backside. As noted the wooden carbine shoulder stock is completely original, unaltered and correctly numbered on top of the attaching iron (527). These stocks feature a checkered pistol grip area with a horn buttplate. This pistol is complete with an original 1902 era wooden base magazine that has a small proof on the underside of the unmarked wooden base. This exceptional Luger carbine rig is housed in a contemporary French style fitted walnut storage case with a brown leather outside cover and a green felt lining with a small accessory compartment.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, retaining 90% plus of the original blued finish with edge and high spot wear and some minor thinning on the front grip strap with actual blue loss on the sides of the rear sight base where it rubs inside the forend. The various small parts retain 30% of their straw colors. The grips are in very fine condition with nice original checkering on both sides showing light wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with some minor light handling marks and nicks from use. The forend is in very fine condition with a nice matching dark brown color to the wood with original checkering showing light wear mixed with some handling marks on the underside and the front end of the forend. The walnut stock is in very fine condition with nice checkering on both sides showing minor/light handling marks on the sides of the stock itself from years of use. The swivels are replacements. The contemporary storage case is excellent to like new with excellent leather on the outside showing only minor edge wear with the hinges and front lock being tight. As noted this Luger has all matching numbers including the original stock and forend except for the grips, firing pin and magazine, all of which are unnumbered. Certainly a very nice example of an original unaltered 1902 Stocked Luger Carbine.
