This is a excellent example of a seldom found early production "P" code, commercial contract Luger with the very rare Krieghoff "Side Frame Inscription" markings and an even rarer 5 inch Krieghoff installed barrel. This type of commercial pistol is described on page 190 and 191 of Gibson's book The Krieghoff Parabellum. It is estimated that approximately 960 total were manufactured however less than 2 examples with this extra long 5 inch barrel in 9mm are even reported. This is believed to be the only one known, making it an extremely rare commercial example. This specific pistol has the correct blank chamber area with five pointed star on the right side of the barrel extension, indicating that it was rejected for military acceptance and the early commercial "crown/N" firing proofs on the left side of the frame, barrel extension and underside of the barrel. The front toggle has the early C-1 die markings with the "I" in Krieghoff centered over the "S" in Suhl with the round bottom "U". The rare side frame markings are in three lines: "Heinrich Krieghoff/Waffenfabrik/Suhl". The pistol is correctly numbered in the commercial fashion with the complete serial number (250) on the front of the frame and the left side of the barrel extension. The back side of the side plate has the last two digits of the serial number along with a Krieghoff proof. This pistol has the high polish Krieghoff blue finish with the straw colored smaller parts. It is fitted with a set of the unmarked late production brown plastic grips with the coarse checkering. The pistol is complete with one early style unmarked, nickel plated magazine with an unnumbered/unproofed aluminum base.

Excellent with 90% of the original high polished blued finish overall with edge and high spot wear with thinning/blue loss on grip straps, and left side of the muzzle area. Straw colors remain 70% intact. The grips are also excellent with nice distinct checkering overall showing very minor use. This rare Luger has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above, the firing pin and grips are correctly unnumbered. Just a super example of an extremely rare early commercial Krieghoff Luger pistol.
