Manufactured in 1892, the first year of production, this takedown rifle features a German silver blade front sight and adjustable buckhorn sporting rear sight (adjuster absent). The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address and "44 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1892/WINCHESTER/PAT. OCT. 14. 1884." and the serial is marked on the bottom of the receiver. Full magazine with patent date marked on the takedown lever, blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever, and mounted with a smooth, nicely figured walnut forearm with a steel forend cap and straight grip stock with a casehardened steel crescent buttplate.

Excellent. The rifle retains 95% of the bright original blue finish with some normal usage wear on the magazine and muzzle, some scattered thinning to a smooth plum and high edge wear. There are a few very small scattered areas of minor spotting. The hammer, lever and buttplate retain 75% original vivid case colors with a smooth silver gray on the balance. The wood is also excellent retaining most of the original varnish with a few overall scattered minor dings and scratches. There is a slight burl grain which gives a very attractive appearance to the wood. The markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
