This is an excellent early, special order Winchester Model 1873 lever action rifle that was manufactured in 1887. It is a third model with integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated rear edge. It features only one special order feature which is the 26 inch long full octagon barrel, as the 24 inch barrel were standard on the 1873 models. The barrel has the two-line address/patent dates information ahead of the rear sight and "38 WCF" at the breech, and ".38 Cal." is stamped on the brass elevator. The barrel is fitted with a half-nickel blade front sight with the elevation adjustable buckhorn type rear sights. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873" with the foliage on each end. The lower rear tang is marked with serial number "225384B". The forend cap, frame, hammer, lever and buttplate are casehardened. It is fitted with a beautiful dark brown walnut forend and straight grip buttstock with a crescent buttplate with a trapdoor (cleaning rod not included).

Fine with 60% plus of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with slightly more fading and blue loss on the right side and upper rear end of the receiver. The hammer retains 50% of its case colors, and the loading lever retains 40% of its case colors with the balance a mottled gray appearance. The forend and buttstock both retain much of their original oil finish with some minor handling marks and light spotting on the left side and underside of the stock.
