Description:

Manufactured in 1868. The top barrel flat has the desirable first style legend: "HENRY'S PATENT-OCT. 16. 1860/KINGS-PATENT-MARCH 29, 1866". The rifle is equipped with a German silver blade front sight and a folding ladder rear sight graduated to 900 yards. It retains the rimfire bolt which has a punch mark on the face. The serial number is stamped on the left side of the lower tang and buttplate. Sling swivels are mounted on the underside of the forend cap and buttstock. The trapdoor buttplate is brass (cleaning rod not included). The '66 secured Winchester's place in the annals of the West and launched a long line of successful Winchester lever actions that remain popular to this day and still retain the basic form of the '66.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The barrel is mostly a smooth dark brown patina with scattered pitting. There is heavy pitting visible on the replacement magazine tube. Traces of original nitre blue remain on the loading gate. The brass has an even mellow patina, and the lower tang has been broken and resoldered to the receiver. The sanded wood is very good with a few stabilized cracks, minimal chipping and some minor-moderate dings. Mechanically excellent.
