Manufactured in 1889. The accompanying Vossler Collectibles letter states that Winchester factory records list this rifle with an octagon barrel in .38 caliber, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock and nickel trim when received in the warehouse on October 21, 1889 and shipped the same day. The half nickel finish is a rare Winchester special order feature. It has a third model receiver with integral dust cover rib, standard Winchester markings, dovetail blade front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight and long rang Vernier tang peep sight. Blue barrel and magazine tube, nickel plated forend cap, buttplate and receiver, and casehardened hammer and lever. Mounted on fancy figured walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with checkering, ebony grip insert and trapdoor crescent buttplate. A three piece cleaning rod is included. The left side of the lower tang is marked "2757 XXX." The assembly number "2757" is repeated on the stock inlet.

Near fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain some faded original blue finish in the protected areas with the balance a mottled gray patina. 40% original nickel plating remains on the forend cap, receiver and buttplate with the balance a dark lightly pitted smooth gray patina. Traces of original case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is fine with minor dings and scratches throughout, chipping at the lower tang and a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering.
